Lots of nightlife but you will be hustled by the mama sans that want to bring you into the bars to get you to buy expensive drinks for their girls and then get you to pay to take the girls home. Eye opening look at fresh food. Plenty to see as you wander around. Lots of photo opportunities. Very interesting. Between Central and Causeway bay we had business to transact here and when finished took a look around - there are many commercial office buildings, lots of people in the daytime, many local produce shops and lots of food outlets both formal and street food - the Convention Center is nearby - Lockhart Road comes to life in the evenings with Bars and Nightclubs.
This is the real Hong Kong in action as there is a lot of people-- everyone is busy running errands, shopping, or going somewhere. Historically the stores here very traditional as fish and seafood are sold live, fresh vegetables and produce. Everything here is cash only so be prepared.
Lot of fresh food sold in the street stalls along the many pedestrian streets here. At Wan Chai Market, this is a busy indoor market with butchers in action, fresh produce, fruit, seafood, meat of all sorts which include pork and beef body parts as they are considered delicacies. Good to stroll here for a 1st view of all the action in shopping in a typical Hong Kong grocery market. Wan Chai is an odd mix. The main reason you would be here, would be the Hong Kong Convention Centre.
There is an interesting sculpture at the Morrison Hill and Leighton Road Junction of a approximately 2 metre tall golden dragon that was designed and erected here in in the wake of the SARS endemic in Hong Kong. The sculpture is of a elegantly shaped, winding and balanced dragon. It is an image similar to what you might have seen in Chinese restaurants or as part of Chinese festivals or parades during holiday seasons.
If you enjoy seeing statues and monuments this can be an interesting landmark to see in this buffer area between Causeway Bay and Wan Chai. Hong Kong. Profile JOIN. Log in to get trip updates and message other travelers.
